RE: Wildlife pond in the making - Red Kite - 31-07-10 I put in two one from each side of one of our sheds, both worked well as did the system from the house roof As the rains started the water levels quickly rose, on the deeper section of the pond 1” rainfall = 6” in the pond & it was soon 18” deep Water levels rise Water Cress under water It reaches the Flag Iris Almost at the top of the sandstone flag after 2 good nights rain Rocks disappearing The 9” drain now well under water, sorry' I've already posted this photo with the 9" drain Why do Wood Pigeons only bath when there is torrential rain?? RE: Wildlife pond in the making - Red Kite - 31-07-10 Marsh Marigold almost submerged Brooklime struggling to the surface Water now reaching the common reed & young trees dug up from round the sheds out of reach of rabbits waiting for me to find time to fence off an area to plant them A young friend Water collection systems working well The water got about 2” above this level & has now dropped 4” All the birds have loved the fluctuating water levels, Robins, Great tits, Blue Tits, Tree Sparrows, Goldfinches, Chaffinch, House Martins & Swallows either foraging for insects, getting a drink or collecting mud. That is almost up to date, just missing the blanket weed which will clear. I hope I haven't bored you. I'll update again when the pond is fuller but that could be some time. Now I must get back to work or filling in holes in plaster & sanding getting ready for decorating?? RE: Wildlife pond in the making - bramble1 - 31-07-10 the pond is looking great and has filled up a fair bit, look forward to more photos when its fuller, theres so many different plants and wildlife you see Dave must be really interesting,I would never be away lol RE: Wildlife pond in the making - granheather - 31-07-10 Good grief Dave when you an update you do it with style. If I win the lottery tonight I will buy you the lining and maybe something more my friend RE: Wildlife pond in the making - Red Kite - 31-07-10 *Snip* granheather Wrote:Good grief Dave when you an update you do it with style. Heather you sounded so disappointed when you thought I had updated the thread about 6 weeks ago; I had to put some effort in for you A liner would be great I'm constantly in trouble from the rest of the family who consider it an eyesore. My problem will be when I come to put one in what do I do with all my plants & friends that live there as it won't be an easy job. I'll have to seek Toady's advice RE: Wildlife pond in the making - granheather - 31-07-10 He should be back soon. They are living in rented house atm but move should be soon. Thank you Dave sooo much it was wonderful RE: Wildlife pond in the making - Brambling - 28-07-11 Have just enjoyed this entire thread as I hadn't seen it before. Pond still thriving, is it? Thought I'd plan ahead and have a trawl through pond posts since I plan to make one next spring. Nothing on the scale you've done it though! RJ x |
